Humanity Week
每年秋季,浦东万科学校都会举办人文周。在活动期间,学生们可以尽情挥洒创意、展现风采,还能独立自主研究,扩展历史主题知识。在过去几年,学生们在人文周,深入地了解了与“地理及科技”相关的历史知识内容,今年人文周的主题是“社会与身份”。学生在选定一位有影响力的历史人物后,需要围绕这一人物之于社会和世界的重要意义加以介绍和展示。
Every Fall, VSP students participate in Humanity Week where they are given the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and confidence while doing independent research to gain knowledge of some historical theme. In past years, students have studied the themes of geography and technology. This year’s Humanity Week theme was “society and identity.” Students selected an influential historical figure and created a presentation about how that individual has made an impact on society and the world.
虽然我们的活动仅仅为期一周,但学生们很早就开始为此次人文周做准备。在人文周开始前的几周时间里,每位学生都充分参与到人文课程中,和其他同学密切合作,力求呈现出精彩的展示。人文周活动可以锻炼学生的沟通能力,提高他们尊重他人的意识,同时培养他们的担当精神。 学生们认真地独立完成研究、选择相关信息、准备文稿,还制作了令人眼前一亮的海报。经过数周的努力,我们终于迎来了人文周展示日。
Although the event is labelled as “Humanity Week,” students began their preparation for the event long beforehand. During the days and weeks leading up the event, students were busy in their Humanity classes working closely with their classmates to prepare excellent presentations. The project required students to be communicative, respectful, and responsible teammates. Students worked hard conducting independent research, selecting relevant information, preparing scripts, and creating visually stimulating poster boards. After several weeks of hard work, presentation day finally arrived.
在活动当天,学生们在操场上向小学部的同学以及家长们展示了他们的海报,并就各自选定的人物做了介绍。看到同学们充满热情地与听众分享知识时,我明显感到他们在前几周的所有努力都得到了回报。环顾操场,我看到聚精会神的小学部同学和感到自豪的家长们都被各种展示深深吸引。
On the day of the big presentations, students assembled on the playground to display their posters and deliver their presentations to primary students and parents. As I watched the students share their knowledge with their audiences, it was obvious that all their hard work over the prior weeks had paid off. Looking around the playground, I saw attentive primary students and proud parents eagerly listening to the presentations.
如果你也在展示日当天来到了现场,便可以感受到来自世界各地和不同时代的历史人物的魅力。六年级的学生展示了亚历山大大帝、孔子和埃及艳后等古代人物;七年级的学生选择了以成吉思汗、查理大帝和郑和为代表的中世纪历史人物;八年级的学生深入解析了文艺复兴时代,伊丽莎白女王一世、乔治·华盛顿和艾萨克·牛顿等历史人物纷纷跃然于海报之上;最后,我们的九年级学生也十分出色地对包括斯大林和圣雄甘地在内的现代人物做了介绍。
If you had been given the opportunity to attend the presentations, you could have seen historical figures from all over the world and different times. Sixth graders presented ancient figures like Alexander the Great, Confucius, and Cleopatra. Seventh graders selected historical figures from the Middle Ages like Genghis Khan, Charlamagne, and Zheng He. Eighth graders meanwhile tackled the Renaissance era, and selected historical figures such as Queen Elizabeth I, George Washington, and Isaac Newton. Finally, our ninth graders did an excellent job of representing the modern era presenting figures such as Stalin and Mahatma Gandhi.
作为人文学科的教师,看到同学们能如此游刃有余地完成展示,我十分自豪。他们为此做了很多努力,值得为自己最后的展出成果感到骄傲。而现在,我已经开始按捺不住想看到明年人文周盛况的心情了!
As a Humanity teacher, I was very pleased to see our students do such a terrific job with their presentations. They worked very hard and should feel proud of what they were able to accomplish. I’m already looking forward to next year!
